2010

The next Promapalooza will take place February 13th, 2011

Girls in DFCS custody from all over Georgia come to select free elegant dresses donated by you enabling them to attend their high school proms in style. There are giggles and smiles, oohs and ahhs all afternoon while they select the dress of their dreams, jewelry, shoes, shawls, purses and a lesson in hair make up. The girls are absolutely radiant when they try on the gowns and find one to suit them. Foster Care Support Foundation thanks all who make it possible for these girls to enjoy this event. Special thanks to Tolbert Yilmaz School of Dance/ Alpharetta Street, Roswell and Crown Cleaners/Johnson Ferry Rd, Marietta, for their help and efforts in making this event successful.

This  years Prom-A-Palooza was a huge success. Over 100 volunteers came to help size, set up, organize, be personal shoppers and clean up the wonderful and exciting event for the foster teens. With confidentiality laws prohibiting any visible advertising of these children, it is difficult to meet the many needs of the teens while they are in the system.
Many are truly invisible and this event helps them feel a part of the world that never seems to cross their threshhold; a glimpse at a fairytale prom evening with all of the fine attire seen in photos of fancy magazines. Some girls were in tears when they looked into the mirrors of the dance studio where it was held this year. One girl said she never expected she would be going to prom due to the cost and her being in foster care. She said, this is like God giving me a reason to be here. She meant, 'alive', and that is so good to know, to know that these girls feel love pouring out towards them from the volunteers working so hard the help them find items that they like.
